Bobby “King” Green is out of UFC 319. The veteran lightweight revealed on Instagram that a serious, undisclosed injury has left him unable to walk, forcing the cancellation of his matchup with Diego Ferreira and pushing the bout to a later date.

Green, who was aiming to stop a two-fight skid after setbacks against Paddy Pimblett and Mauricio Ruffy, had rebuilt momentum not long ago with wins over Tony Ferguson, Grant Dawson, and Jim Miller. At 38, he was looking for a course correction against Ferreira—until this latest setback. Speaking to fans, Green said he’s on crutches and, while he’s fought through plenty over the years, this one isn’t something he can just “gut out.” He apologized to supporters and stressed how hard he’d worked to make it to fight night.

Injuries have intersected with Green’s career before—from Strikeforce through a decade in the UFC—but he’d prided himself on not pulling out unless there was no other option. This time, the body drew a hard line.

This stings for both men. For Green, the timing is brutal: a veteran volume striker who thrives on rhythm now loses a prime chance to steady the ship against a ranked-caliber technician. At this stage of his career, health-to-camp-to-cage continuity is everything. If mobility is the limitation, think rehab > full-contact sparring > targeted return—late fall or winter if recovery cooperates. For Ferreira, the UFC can either hunt for a short-notice replacement (risky at this weight class) or rebook the matchup to preserve the style clash fans wanted. Big picture: Green’s name value and pace still play on any main card, but the next booking likely becomes a must-win recalibration fight. Expect the matchmakers to balance respect for his tenure with a sensible on-ramp back to contention.
