Elon Musk Declares New ‘America Party’ — Will It DESTROY the Two-Party System?

Billionaire tech titan Elon Musk officially declared the formation of a new political movement — the "America Party" — on Saturday, marking a dramatic turn in his increasingly bitter split with former ally President Donald Trump.
The announcement, made via a bold post on Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) account, comes just one day after he floated the idea in a public poll asking users if he should form a third party. The poll ended with a decisive majority in favor.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk posted. “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
The billionaire entrepreneur, who just months ago stood beside Trump in the Oval Office and contributed millions to his campaign, has been hinting for weeks at a political breakaway after tensions boiled over regarding Trump’s controversial spending bill — a measure Musk has openly condemned as “wasteful.”
While Trump celebrated the bill’s passage through Congress, Musk countered with his vision of a populist political insurgency, suggesting that the America Party could seize power by targeting a small number of swing seats in Congress.
“Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws, ensuring that they serve the true will of the people,” he argued.
Despite his vast wealth and online influence, Musk faces steep logistical challenges in turning the America Party into a functioning political force. Forming a viable third party in the U.S. requires navigating a maze of state ballot access laws, filing requirements, and legal hurdles — none of which Musk has yet addressed publicly.
The move also comes just two months after Musk claimed he would reduce political involvement, saying he had “done enough.” Now, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO seems poised to become one of the most unpredictable players in the 2026 election cycle.
He has already vowed to back Kentucky Republican Rep. Thomas Massie — who is currently in Trump’s crosshairs — further signaling his readiness to go head-to-head with the former president in select races.
For now, the America Party exists only in name — but with Musk’s billions and an increasingly vocal online base, it may soon become a disruptive wildcard in America’s political arena.
