Garth Brooks Shocks Crowd at George Strait’s Flood Relief Concert, Helping Raise $6.25M for Texas Victims

Country music legends united for a cause as George Strait headlined his Strait to the Heart benefit concert on July 27—but it was the surprise appearance of Garth Brooks that brought the house down.
The sold-out event, held at Estancia at Thunder Valley in Boerne, Texas, was designed to raise funds for those devastated by the historic Texas Hill Country floods over the July 4th weekend. The benefit ultimately raised a jaw-dropping $6.25 million (and counting) for relief efforts through the Vaqueros Del Mar Texas Flood Victims Fund.

The 1,200 attendees were already in for a memorable night—but when Garth Brooks stepped onto the stage to join Strait for a performance of “The Fireman”, the energy surged. The duet served as a tribute to the first responders who risked their lives during the deadly flood crisis.
Before the music kicked off, Pastor Max Lucado opened the night with a prayer, followed by a heartfelt welcome from Strait and his Vaqueros Del Mar partner Tom Cusick.
