MLB: Red Sox Could Deal Fan-Favorite All-Star Jarren Duran in Deadline Shakeup

MLB: Red Sox Could Deal Fan-Favorite All-Star Jarren Duran in Deadline Shakeup

The Boston Red Sox are riding a second-half playoff push, but behind the scenes, a surprising name continues to swirl in trade talks: Jarren Duran.

According to MLB insider Mark Feinsand (MLB.com), Duran is considered one of the top outfielders available as the trade deadline looms. Though the 28-year-old speedster has been productive this season, Boston may look to cash in now — especially with a loaded outfield pipeline and an urgent need to bolster their pitching staff for the stretch run.

🔄 Duran on the Block?

Duran, a 2024 All-Star, remains a durable and dynamic threat at the plate. He currently leads the American League in plate appearances, ranks in the 88th percentile in exit velocity, and continues to be one of MLB’s fastest players. But he hasn’t quite replicated his breakout 2024 campaign, where he led the majors in doubles and triples, finished with a .834 OPS, and notched an impressive 6.8 fWAR.

While under club control through 2028, Duran is set to command a larger contract than Boston’s younger outfielders — Roman Anthony, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Wilyer Abreu — all of whom are waiting in the wings. That depth, paired with Boston's postseason aspirations, makes Duran one of the team’s most valuable trade chips.

“The Red Sox don’t have a pressing need to trade Duran,” Feinsand noted. “But he could be Boston’s best option to land controllable, impact pitching at the deadline.”

📉 Red Sox Outlook

Boston finished the first half with a red-hot 10-game win streak and currently holds the third AL Wild Card spot. But they’ve dropped three of their last four, and with one of the toughest remaining schedules in MLB, reinforcements are a must — particularly on the mound.

Though trading Duran would be tough for fans, especially given his five-year run with the club, Boston appears open to tough decisions if it means deepening their postseason chances.

🎙️ MainEvent.News | Backstage Take

Duran’s name being floated isn’t about performance — it’s about timing. With Boston in the playoff hunt and pitching depth stretched thin, the Red Sox may have no choice but to deal from strength. Duran remains a fan favorite and a clubhouse constant, but if a high-upside starter is on the table, don’t be surprised if Boston makes a bold move. The Sox are playing to win now, and sometimes that means cutting ties with the heart to strengthen the spine.
