MLB: Traded Mid-Game — Blue Jays Nab Seranthony Domínguez from Orioles in Dugout-to-Dugout Trade Deadline Move

TORONTO — In one of the most surreal MLB Trade Deadline moments of the year, reliever Seranthony Domínguez was traded during Tuesday’s doubleheader between the Blue Jays and Orioles — and all he had to do was change dugouts at Camden Yards.
The Blue Jays acquired the fireballing right-hander along with cash considerations from Baltimore in exchange for top-10 pitching prospect Juaron Watts-Brown. The young arm, currently ranked No. 10 in Toronto’s farm system per MLB Pipeline, will join the Orioles’ Double-A affiliate, which — in yet another twist — is currently also facing Watts-Brown’s now-former team.
🧾 TRADE DETAILS:
- Blue Jays receive: RHP Seranthony Domínguez, Cash
- Orioles receive: RHP Juaron Watts-Brown (Blue Jays No. 10 prospect)
The 2025 MLB Trade Deadline hits this Thursday at 6 p.m. ET, and Toronto’s front office isn’t slowing down. Sources confirm the team is also in aggressive talks to land Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley — a sign that the Jays are going all in to solidify a shaky bullpen that was embarrassed in a 16-4 blowout earlier Tuesday.
Domínguez, 30, brings elite heat to the mix, averaging 97.8 mph with his fastball and frequently flirting with triple digits. He’s struck out 54 batters in 41.2 innings this season with a 3.24 ERA, though control has been an issue (5.2 BB/9).
With Yimi García sidelined, Domínguez is expected to take over a late-inning role alongside closer Jeff Hoffman, Brendon Little, Braydon Fisher, and Yariel Rodríguez, forming what could be one of the nastiest backend bullpens in the American League — if they can land one more big arm.
Meanwhile, Chad Green, who’s been shell-shocked all season with 14 homers allowed — most among MLB relievers — was designated for assignment just hours after giving up two more bombs in Game 1 of the twin bill. Green was in the final year of a $10.5M deal.
Watts-Brown, who heads to the Orioles in return, has been a bright spot in the Blue Jays’ system. The 2023 third-round pick has posted a 3.54 ERA and 115 strikeouts over 89 innings across High-A and Double-A. With a wicked slider, he’s expected to make a quick impact in the O’s farm system.
💬 MainEvent.News | Backstage Take
“Toronto’s bullpen was bleeding, and they just added a flamethrower. But with Helsley still in their sights, this might just be the undercard. Expect more high-octane movement from the Jays before the deadline bell rings Thursday.”
