Nintendo Switch 2 Gets Surprise Update – Here's What It Does

Nintendo has quietly pushed out a new system update for the Switch 2, bringing the console's firmware to version 20.1.5. But in true Nintendo fashion, the company remains tight-lipped about the specifics.

According to the official patch notes, the update includes only the ever-familiar:

“General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.”

No further details were provided, leaving fans to speculate whether any hidden tweaks or performance boosts lie beneath the surface.

The update should install automatically when your system is connected to the internet. For those eager to ensure they're up to date, it can also be manually triggered via the System Settings > System Update menu.

This marks the first patch since the major day-one update released on June 4, which introduced key features like GameChat, GameShare, and backward compatibility with original Switch titles.

The Nintendo Switch 2 officially launched on June 5 and is already off to a blazing start, selling 3.5 million units in just four days. Its flagship title, Mario Kart World, is also dominating—with 79% of new owners picking it up either through bundles or as standalone purchases.
