Rick and Morty’s Future Revealed? Season 10 Hype Fuels Speculation About Adult Swim Exit

Dan Harmon on Rick and Morty's Wild Future: Season 10 Scripts, Snyder Dream Cameos & Staying ‘Timeless’

As Rick and Morty gears up to close out its Season 8 finale this Sunday, co-creator Dan Harmon isn’t panicking about deadlines—in fact, he's ahead of them. Way ahead.

In a Comic-Con sit-down with The Hollywood Reporter, Harmon admitted that he’s already written episodes for Season 10, and the time warp is starting to mess with his mind.

“I’ve become my own Chevy Chase,” Harmon joked, recalling a moment when he considered editing a script for an episode that had already aired. “I was told we were doing a table read of the two Beths episode. I said, ‘Maybe I should punch that script up.’ Steve Levy was like, ‘It already aired on television.’”

This is a massive shift for Harmon, who’s been vocal in the past about obsessively fine-tuning episodes until the last possible moment. But now, the Adult Swim series is operating so far ahead of schedule that they’ve already wrapped voice work for Season 9 and started developing Season 10.

“It’s very new. Very alien,” Harmon admitted. “Sometimes I wake up in a cold sweat going, ‘How do I destroy everything? How do I slow it down?’”

Still, he’s excited about what’s coming—even if he knows fans will have to wait.

“There are episodes of Season 10 I’m already so pumped about. It’s frustrating to have them written but not out in the world yet.”

One thing Harmon isn’t as concerned about? Chasing headlines.

“People might ask, ‘Why are you three years ahead?’ That means you’re not going to get that amazing Jeffrey Epstein episode. We’re not going to have hot-topic stuff. We stay timeless.”

Season 8 brought some heat with unexpected cameos from James Gunn and Zack Snyder, the latter of whom Harmon teases may return in dream-sequence-only “Snyder Cuts” in future episodes.

As always, fans continue to debate the balance between Rick and Morty’s multiverse canon and one-off episodic storytelling. Harmon acknowledges the challenge.

“Serialization is a beautiful thing that happens naturally to a show people love. It doesn’t need help. The modular episodes—those take more energy. That’s where I live.”

Fortunately, the younger writers on the team serve as “canonical continuity watchdogs,” ensuring the ever-expanding multiverse stays coherent—while Harmon just wants to make an ALF episode.

MainEvent.News | Backstage Take:
Dan Harmon is doing what few creators in adult animation ever manage—working three seasons ahead while still keeping the fans guessing. The “Chevy Chase” comment is classic Harmon self-deprecation, but it highlights something bigger: Rick and Morty isn’t just surviving the post-Roiland shift, it’s thriving. And if Snyder dream sequences and Season 10 hype are already on deck, the portal gun’s nowhere near powering down.
