MLB: Giants CEO Confirms Barry Bonds Statue “Is Coming” to Oracle Park

Barry Bonds, Major League Baseball’s all-time home run leader, will be honored with a statue outside Oracle Park, according to San Francisco Giants CEO Larry Baer.

During a radio appearance Thursday on 95.7 The Game, Baer confirmed the organization plans to immortalize Bonds alongside the franchise’s legendary figures.

“Barry is certainly deserving of a statue, and I would say should be next up,” Baer said. “We don't have the exact location, the exact date, or the exact timing… It's coming. All I can say is it's coming.”

Bonds spent the final 15 seasons of his 22-year career with the Giants, hitting 586 of his record 762 home runs in San Francisco from 1993 to 2007. He broke Hank Aaron’s long-standing record on August 7, 2007, with a 756th career homer against the Washington Nationals at home.

The Giants have already erected statues for Hall of Famers Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Juan Marichal, Gaylord Perry, and Orlando Cepeda. Bonds’ No. 25 jersey was retired by the club in 2018.

Despite his iconic career, Bonds has not been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. A seven-time National League MVP and 14-time All-Star, Bonds was denied election by both the Baseball Writers' Association of America and the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee, largely due to allegations of performance-enhancing drug use during the latter stages of his career.

Still, the franchise is moving forward in commemorating his historic contributions to Giants baseball.
