"Sweet Revenge" Jason Voorhees Officially To Return in Gore-Filled Film—First Look at Friday the 13th Revival

Jason Voorhees is back — and he's bloodier than ever.
After years in legal limbo and radio silence, the Friday the 13th icon is slicing his way back onto screens in “Sweet Revenge,” the first official entry in the bold new Jason Universe reboot campaign.
The project was unveiled during San Diego Comic-Con 2025, where fans were treated to a chilling teaser of the short-form vignette, described as the centerpiece of Jason's 45th anniversary celebration.
Premiering August 13, 2025, Sweet Revenge is a brutal throwback to the slasher's legacy — a weekend-in-the-woods scenario soaked in the kind of carnage only Jason can deliver. Sponsored by Angry Orchard and directed by Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn), the vignette promises a fresh but faithful resurrection of Camp Crystal Lake’s most infamous killer.
"To think, 30 years ago I was sneaking these VHS tapes behind my parents' backs,” Nelson shared. “Now I get to direct an official Jason story. It’s a surreal, gory dream come true."
Produced in partnership with Horror, Inc., Friday 13th LLC, and cider brand Angry Orchard, the project is just one slice of a much larger revival. The Jason Universe will also expand onto the small screen, with A24 and Peacock's long-awaited prequel series "Crystal Lake" currently in production.
“Jason has always been a force in pop culture,” said Friday 13th LLC’s Marc Toberoff. “The 45th anniversary gave us the perfect reason to do something unexpected while staying true to the mythology.”
🩸 MainEvent.News | Backstage Take:
Jason isn’t just back — he’s officially franchised. Sweet Revenge is more than a nostalgic nod; it's a test balloon for a multi-platform horror resurgence. With A24 now involved and big brands like Angry Orchard backing the bloodshed, horror IPs like Friday the 13th are entering their Marvel era. Whether this works or backfires depends on how much they honor what made Jason terrifying in the first place: raw, relentless slasher horror. If Sweet Revenge delivers, it might just be the start of a new golden age for Camp Crystal Lake.
