Jennifer Love Hewitt Says “No Feud” With Sarah Michelle Gellar — But 27 Years of Silence Says Otherwise

After nearly three decades, Jennifer Love Hewitt is setting the record straight on the long-rumored rift between her and Buffy icon Sarah Michelle Gellar — and it’s not what fans expected.

In a new interview with Vulture, Hewitt—who recently reprised her role in the reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer—revealed she hasn’t spoken to her former co-star since the original 1997 film premiered. Yes, you read that right: 27 years of radio silence.

“Literally, we’ve not talked since I saw her at 18 years old when the first movie came out,” Hewitt shared. “That’s why it’s so funny to me. People were like, ‘Say something back.’ And I’m like, ‘What am I going to say? I’ve not seen her.’”

Despite the lack of contact, Hewitt insists there’s no beef.

“I honestly don’t even know what that was or how that all came to be,” she said of the feud rumors. “Why do we always have to be against each other and out for each other?”

Sarah Michelle Gellar also cleared the air online after fans noticed the two didn’t appear together at the film’s premiere or afterparty. Gellar commented that she never saw Hewitt that night due to “crazy” scheduling and family obligations — and made it clear there’s still admiration between the two.

“If you have ever been to one of these, it’s crazy,” Gellar wrote. “I sadly didn’t get pics with most of the cast. But that doesn’t change how amazing I think they all are.”

The reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer hit theaters this weekend, introducing a new generation of thrill-seekers haunted by secrets — and stalkers. Returning cast includes Freddie Prinze Jr. and yes, Gellar makes a surprise dream sequence cameo despite her character’s 1997 demise.

Franchise newcomers include Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, and Gabbriette Bechtel.

Let’s be real — in Hollywood, not talking doesn’t always mean fighting. Jennifer Love Hewitt’s candor and Gellar’s public positivity make one thing clear: the “feud” never really existed. Still, in an age where red carpet photo-ops mean everything, their absence side-by-side was enough to spark fan theories for weeks. For two '90s icons known for battling slashers and stealing teen hearts, it's ironic that the loudest drama was off-screen.
