NBA: Ex-NBA All-Star Walks Back Steroid Jab at LeBron James — But the Internet Isn’t Buying It

LeBron James is still dominating at 40, and some people clearly can’t wrap their heads around it.

The Los Angeles Lakers icon is coming off yet another elite season—earning All-Star and All-NBA Second Team honors while finishing 6th in MVP voting. But while most fans are praising his longevity, one former NBA All-Star stirred controversy by questioning how King James is still playing at such a high level.

That man? Jeff Teague.

During an episode of The Club 520 Podcast, Teague made a jaw-dropping comment, claiming that LeBron James used steroids during his Miami Heat days.

He was on steroids, bro… allegedly,” Teague said. “They started testing for HGH, and he had to sit out. He said his back was hurting and sat out for like three weeks… then came back skinny.

🧊 The Backpedal Begins

After the clip exploded across social media—especially on X (formerly Twitter) via accounts like @FullCourtPass and @NBACentral—Teague quickly took to Instagram to do damage control:

“Y’all weird I was joking about Bron… he was just that dominant. Chill,” Teague posted to his IG story.

While the tone of the original comment had a hint of sarcasm, the specific reference to HGH testing and physical changes stirred debate. Teague has since made it clear it was a joke—but not before it was aggregated by millions and fueled conspiracy theories across NBA fan circles.

🏀 The History Between Teague and LeBron

Teague, who entered the NBA in 2009 and made an All-Star appearance in 2015, crossed paths with LeBron multiple times during his tenure with the Atlanta Hawks. Most notably, LeBron’s Cavaliers swept Teague’s Hawks in back-to-back playoff series in 2015 and 2016—an era where James was operating at peak dominance.

When it comes to LeBron, even jokes turn into headlines. Jeff Teague might’ve been half-joking, but he half-stepped into something serious. Alleging PED use—even with an 'allegedly'—carries real weight, especially when aimed at one of the most scrutinized athletes in the world. Teague walked it back, but the echoes won’t fade fast. In the social era, a 'joke' can cost more than a foul in the paint.
